Those portions of BLAINE, BUTTE, LINCOLN, and MINIDOKA COUNTIES within the following boundary: beginning at Shoshone, then north and east on U.S. 93 to Arco-Minidoka Road (approximately two (2) miles SW of Arco), then south on ArcoMinidoka Road to the East Minidoka Road (approximately two (2) miles east of Minidoka), then northwest on East Minidoka Road to Minidoka, then northwest on State Highway 24 to the point of beginning.

The Big Desert is exactly what its name suggests — a vast block of sage steppe between Arco and Idaho Falls, much of it bordering or inside the Idaho National Laboratory exclusion. Elk presence is concentrated near the timber fringes; most of the zone is mule-deer and antelope country.
