Pebble Creek

A scenic 9.7-mile tributary of the Portneuf River in southeastern Idaho. Regularly stocked with rainbow trout. Features camping, toilets, and ADA access. Good for Yellowstone cutthroat and rainbow trout in a mountain stream setting.

Species: Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout. Difficulty: beginner. Approachable for first-timers and families.

Best timing: Summer and Fall. Summer fishes best at first light and late evening; midday is technical. Fall is prime — heavy feeding before winter, fewer crowds.

Regulations: Southeast Region Bag Limits. Trout limit 6, only 2 may be Cutthroat in streams. Always confirm with the current IDFG rule book before fishing.

Southeast Idaho holds the densest concentration of trophy trout water in the state. The Henry's Fork is the marquee fly-fishing river in North America for technical dry-fly fishing; the South Fork of the Snake holds Yellowstone cutthroat-rainbow hybrids; Henrys Lake and Palisades Reservoir produce trophy-sized fish. Driggs, Ashton, Idaho Falls, and Soda Springs are the staging towns.
