2025 Shed Hunting Regulations: New Closures
The rules have changed (again). Here is what you need to know about the new E-bike restrictions and closure dates.
Shed hunting has exploded in popularity, and with it, the pressure on wintering wildlife. IDFG has implemented new closures for 2025.
Closure Dates
Upper Snake & Southeast Region: Closed to all shed hunting until May 1st. No exceptions.
Southwest Region (Unit 39): Closed until May 1st.
Roam Pro Tip: The "E-Scout" Loophole
Glass Now, Hike Later. Just because you can't hike the winter range doesn't mean you can't scout it. Use public roads to glass south-facing slopes in March. Mark "Brown Gold" (antlers) on your Roam app with a localized waypoint. When the closure lifts (usually May 1), you have a hit list of GPS coordinates to hike directly to.
