Success in Unit 25 requires understanding the forest/mountains terrain and public land boundaries. Use Roam Idaho for connected trip planning, then carry an official offline map before leaving service.
That portion of VALLEY COUNTY within the drainage of the South Fork of the Salmon River south of the Hall Creek drainage on the east side of the river, and south of the Bear Creek drainage on the west side of the river, except that portion of the Secesh River drainage upstream from and including Paradise Creek drainage.
The McCall zone covers the Payette Forest country east and north of McCall — Sawtooth-adjacent terrain with strong elk populations, mixed conifer forest, and good road access. It's one of the more popular general-tag zones for Idaho residents.
McCall is the obvious base. Routes north toward Yellow Pine and the Frank Church boundary open in early summer. Expect company on accessible drainages.
